Two boys died when their family home burned in northern Iowa.

Fire was reported in the Gaston home in Graettinger, Iowa at about 6:30 a.m. Monday, July 7, 2014. Stephanie Gaston, 27, was able to escape but she could not get her two sons out of the burning house. Several media reports indicate witnesses reported seeing and hearing Gaston as she yelled for help.

Firefighters found five-year-old Gavin Hasbrouck and seven-year-old Collin Reed inside the home. The boys and their mother were taken by ambulance to a hospital, where the boys were later pronounced dead.

Graettinger Fire Chief Brad Anderson said he believed the boys died of smoke inhalation, according to KICD Radio.

The fire reportedly started in the living room according to a preliminary report. The cause of the fire, and amount of the damage, remained under investigation.  KICD also reported firefighters said there were no working smoke detectors in the house.

Stephanie Gaston reportedly remained hospitalized for treatment of injuries she suffered in the fire.
