The manhunt for a Rockford man suspected of committing two murders in two days has ended.
According to the Illinois State Police, 36-year-old Terence Doddy was arrested around 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 4, 2014. He appeared to be heading toward Wisconsin.
Previous reports indicate that an attendant found Bargman’s body at the Willow Creek Rest stop Tuesday evening, July 1, 2014. That rest stop is about 16 miles north of LaSalle on I-39. State Police said surveillance video showed Bargman being attacked by a man as she was leaving the ladies room at the rest stop.
Doddy was reportedly seen leaving the rest area in Bargman’s car, a gray 2013 Nissan Altima with Illinois license plate BARGMN2.
Police say Doddy is also a suspect of Hansmeier’s murder, which happened at the QVSM call center on Monday, June 30, 2014 in Rockford, Illinois.
The Illinois State Police said Doddy was spotted Wednesday, July 3, 2014 around 8 p.m. by an officer near Machesney Park, which is about seven miles northeast of Rockford. The following morning, Doddy was spotted by an ISP District 16 trooper who recognized the description of Bargman’s car in Rockton. Doddy was also spotted by the ISP Air Operations.
Several departments responded to the alert in an attempt to apprehend Doddy, including Rock Island County Sheriff’s Department, Beloit Police Department, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department, and the Rockford Police Department.
“Doddy finally lost control of the Nissan and ISP troopers immediately took him into custody with the assistance of Winnebago Sheriff’s and Beloit PD,” said an ISP spokesperson.
Police said “no other injuries were reported.” Doddy was placed in police custody in Wisconsin.
“Our thoughts are with the grieving families who have lost their loved ones and our hope is that this arrest will bring some closure to their pain,” said ISP Director Hiram Grau.
