The Mississippi River in the Quad Cities was still move than five feet over flood stage on Saturday, July 5th, 2014, but it's dropping steadily.

On Saturday, Congressman Dave Loebsack was in Davenport to check out the flood zone areas with the city's Public Works Director Mike Clarke, among others.

The group walked around downtown Davenport and also near Modern Woodmen Park.

Rep. Loebsack says it's important for him to monitor the flooding, so that he can be the city's voice in Washington, D.C. and make sure funding is available when needed.

"We have to do everything we can to more regularize the budget process so that when these kinds of things happen we don't have to run around and some how come up with the funding to help the communities," he said. "We have to put that in the budget on a regular basis."

In addition to touring Davenport, Rep. Loebsack also spent some time in Muscatine and Burlington. On Saturday, the Mississippi River in both areas was about eight feet above flood stage, but was also falling.
