Some lanes were blocked for hours after a vehicle hit a pole at Kimberly Road and Northwest Boulevard in Davenport, Iowa.

The intersection and area around it were blocked, by what police called a “serious” traffic crash, reported just before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014.

The wreck involved a vehicle that was southbound on Northwest Boulevard when it struck a pole at the Kimberly Road intersection.

“Speed may have been a factor in the crash,” said a spokesman for the Davenport Police Department.

Police later confirmed the driver of the wrecked vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.  That person’s identity was not yet released.
