Police are warning of a door-to-door gutter cleaning offer that is actually a front for stealing.

The supposed workers show up at local homes and ask to come inside to demonstrate how they will clean the gutters on the home.  While the homeowner is distracted, the workers steal valuables from the home.

“For safety reasons, you should never allow anyone into your home that you don’t know,” said a statement from the Rock Island Police Department.

Anyone who sells a product or service door-to-door must first get a license through the Rock Island City Clerk’s Office, where their legitimacy is first verified.

“If you are approached by subjects such as these or have concerns about any transient merchants operating in Rock Island, don’t hesitate to contact the Police Department at (309) 732-2677,” the police statement said.
