Grounds crews at the Pinnacle Country Club in Milan, Illinois were scrambling to get the course back to playing condition for Wednesday’s John Deere Classic Qualifying Tournament.

On Tuesday morning, the course was covered in several feet of water, according to the course superintendent Jeremy Krouth.

“The number two green, three tees and the lower half of the sixth fairway were all under a couple feet of water,” Krouth said.

Tree limbs and branches scattered the fairways. Bunkers were filled with water. The fairways soaked.

While crews are trying to clean up, they’re facing challenges.

“We can’t get any heavy equipment out here to hall this stuff away because the ground is so wet,” Krouth said as he surveyed the course on his golf cart.

With less than 24 hours before the JDC Qualifying Tournament, grounds crews were racing against time.

“We have pretty much today, and up until 7:30 tomorrow morning to get the course somewhat playable for them,” Krouth said.

Wednesday’s tournament was expected to draw 148 amateur golfers who are aiming for a shot to play in the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run beginning July 10. Practice rounds for golfers at the Pinnacle Country Club were pushed back until Tuesday afternoon.

Krouth said he expects the tournament will still be played on Wednesday, and will begin at 7:30 a.m.
