UPDATE as of 12:35pm on Saturday, June 28th, 2014: A police officer was involved in a car crash on Friday night.

According to a press release sent out by Davenport's Assistant Chief of Police Don Schaeffer, the accident happened around 8pm on Friday, June 27th, 2014  at the intersection of 7th and Marquette.

Asst. Chief Schaeffer says the police officer "observed a vehicle believed to be involved in a 'home invasion' with shots fired on Heatherton Drive on June 19th, 2014."

"After observing the vehicle failing to stop for the stop sign at 7th and Gaines, the Officer attempted to stop the vehicle on 6th Street, but the suspect vehicle immediately began eluding the Squad."

Asst. Chief Schaeffer says the police officer was given permission to pursue the car, but just after it started to a car traveling north hit the driver's side of the squad car.

The car had six people inside. Two of those people were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The officer was checked at the hospital, but was not injured.

The Iowa State Patrol was requested and came to the scene and is investigating the crash.

 

EARLIER STORY: A police car involved in a Davenport crash was severely damaged.

Around 8 p.m. Friday, June 27, 2014 a police officer’s car was hit in Davenport near Marquette and 7th Streets.

Davenport Police said both the officer and driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries. Both vehicles were towed away from the scene.

No word yet on what caused the crash.
