Figge receives $500,000 donation in memory of Moline man’s art-loving family members

To honor the memory of his beloved family members, a Moline man made a major donation to the Figge Art Museum in Davenport.

To honor the memory of his beloved family members, a Moline man made a major donation to the Figge Art Museum in Davenport.

Marty Katz gave the museum $500,000 in honor of his late parents Isador and Ruth Evelyn Katz and his late sister, Judith Katz.

“It is such an honor for our family to be involved with the Figge,” said grandson Matt Katz. “I think it would be an accurate reflection of my grandparents to say that a city without a foundation of arts and culture is merely just a “place,” a spot on a map.”

A spokesperson from the Figge said the second floor Print Gallery will be renamed The Katz Gallery in their memory. On July 3, 2014 there will be a private dedication with only 200 people invited to honor the contribution.

“A gift that's made to the Figge Art Museum is a gift that's made to the entire community, because our museum serves the entire community and we work very hard to bring people and art together and to enrich the lives of everyone we can,” said Director of Development, Raelene Pullen.

Isador and Ruth Evelyn were “advocates” for art, dating back to the mid-50s when Ruth Evelyn joined the Rock Island Art Guild, according to a spokesperson from the Figge. Isador, an attorney, served on the boards of the Rock Island Public Library Foundation, the Rock Island Community Foundation, and Trinity Health Foundation. He received a philanthropy award.
