A tractor trailer hauling a load of beef trimmings went off a highway and into the Floyd River in northwest Iowa.
The truck, owned by B-T Inc. of LeMars, damaged a sign and guardrail as it traveled off the northbound lanes of Highway 75 at about 2 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2014, according to KLEM Radio. The tractor-trailer overturned and came to rest with the front end of the tractor in the Floyd River just north of Merrill. The crash scene was about 18 miles north of Sioux City, Iowa.
The trailer was reportedly hauling beef trimmings used to make sausage.
After the crash, the beef trimmings were considered an environmental contaminant and were to be disposed at a landfill.
The driver, 55-year-old Michael Wichner of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, was extricated from the cab. His injuries were not life-threatening, and he was reportedly treated at a hospital and later released.
