A local mother faced child endangerment charges after she allegedly left marks on her 14-year-old daughter’s neck during an altercation at a Bettendorf casino.

Jail records show Charlene Levan, 34, was booked into the Scott County Jail just before 2:30 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2014.

An affidavit from police said Levan and her daughter “got into a verbal altercation,” during which Levan allegedly threw the teen to the ground and held her down by the throat.

Police said the girl “had red marks on her throat” to support her allegation, and that Levan told officers “she held the victim to the ground and used a pressure point in her neck to keep her down.”

Levan was arrested and police said she was charged with three counts of child endangerment with bodily injury.  Police said the Iowa Department of Human Services was notified of the incident.

Jail records show Levan spent about seven hours in custody before she was released on her own recognizance.
