Motorcyclist seriously injured after colliding with deer on Camanche roadway

A motorcyclist was seriously injured after a collision with a deer that shut down traffic on a Camanche highway for an hour-and-a-half.

A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a collision with a deer that stopped traffic on Highway 67 in Camanche for more than an hour.

A little after 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2014 the motorcyclist was riding on Highway 67 west of 9th Avenue when a deer ran out in front of him, according to the Camanche Fire Department Chief Dave Schutte.

Schutte said the motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital via Med Force.

The Camanche Fire Department was on scene with two ambulances, two engine companies, two support vehicles and 20 personnel. Crews had the highway shut down to traffic for about 90 minutes, according to Schutte.

The fire chief said the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. His condition is unknown at this time.
