The Iowa Medical Examiner’s office confirmed a man’s body found by a mushroom hunter near Eagle Point Park is that of William Hindley of Clinton, Iowa.
Police said someone out mushroom hunting discovered a body in the woods north of 36th Avenue North and McKinley Street on Sunday, April 27, 2014. The medical examiner’s office indicated then that it was skeletal remains that had been found.
An autopsy was performed the next day. The identity of the remains was withheld until next-of-kin could be notified.
In a June 19, 2014 statement, Clinton County Attorney Mike Wolf said they were still waiting for results from DNA studies, but that circumstantial evidence led authorities to determine the body was that of William Hindley.
The cause and manner of Mr. Hindley’s death were “undetermined” according to the autopsy report.
“No signs of trauma or foul play were identified during the examination/investigation,” Wolf said.
An online obituary for Mr. Hindley, who was 61 when he died, said he loved the outdoors and that he “passed in his sleep while napping in his favorite spot, up against a tree, in a beautiful wooded area in North Clinton near the house in which he helped raise his children.”
