A two-vehicle crash in Bettendorf caused 150 gallons of hydraulic fuel to spill from a tractor trailer.

Traffic on Grant Street was down to one lane in each direction for about two hours as crews cleaned up a crash that happened shortly after 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2014.

A spokesperson from the City of Bettendorf said that a westbound Dodge Charger ran a red light and crashed into a tractor trailer heading southbound on 13th Street.

“The fuel tank on the tractor trailer was punctured and approximately 150 gallons of hydraulic fuel spilled onto the ground,” said the spokesperson.

Bettendorf Fire, DNR, and Bettendorf Public Works were on scene for an environmental cleanup.  While crews cleaned up the accident, Grant Street had one lane open each way.

The driver of the Dodge Charger and the passenger of the tractor trailer were taken to the hospital.

A spokesperson from the City of Bettendorf said the driver of the Dodge Charger was cited for running a red light.
