Crews continued their search for a man who was missing after the boat he was driving capsized in the Mississippi River.
Shortly before noon Saturday, June 14, 2014 a boat with five passengers capsized on the river at the Elk River mouth in Clinton County, according to Sgt. Paul Hammond.
The Clinton County Sheriff’s Department said that 30-year-old Edwin Selser from Davenport and his two children, ages 5 and 7, made it to shore. The body of 85-year-old Nancy Selser from Clinton was recovered and the boat’s driver, 60-year-old Charles Selser from Clinton, was missing.
The initial search for Charles, which consisted of 17 boats and 50 personnel, was called-off early Saturday evening when the wind and water got too rough. Their search for Charles resumed Sunday "but is being hindered by wind and rough water," according to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department.
The boat reportedly sank in the area. Police said everyone except for Charles was wearing a life jacket.
Clinton County Conservation Officers, Clinton County Sheriff’s Reserves K-9 and Rescue, Clinton County Emergency Management, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife were assisting in the search Sunday.
