A report by CBS2 Iowa indicated that two swimmers were struggling in the water. The people on the pontoon were able to pull one swimmer up, but couldn’t find Syvixay.
The Department of Natural Resources spent hours searching for Syvixay and the Army Corps of Engineers confirmed that his body was recovered at 8:50 p.m., according to the WCF Courier.
Captain Shawn Meier said Syvixay had “voluntarily jumped off” with intentions of swimming to “what is known as Divers Point,” according to the WCF Courier. Meier said the people Syvixay was with “lost sight of him” when he went under water.
