Officers became involved in a standoff after a man was reportedly threatening to kill four children and his girlfriend.

According to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department, around 10:40 a.m. Sunday, June 15, 2014, a report came in saying that 28-year-old Shane R. Brown was armed and threatening to kill the occupants of a home along Illinois Route 84, north of Thomson, Illinois.

Police said when officers arrived they found that Brown’s girlfriend had escaped with one child, but Brown was still inside the home with three other children.

Several deputies and officers arrived on scene to assist and Carroll County Sheriff’s Department said that there was a standoff that finally ended when Brown surrendered to police.

Inside the home, police said they found an AR-15 style rifle, a bolt-action rifle, and a revolver.

Brown was taken to the Carroll County Jail and faces several charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of stolen firearm, endangering the life/ health of a child, aggravated battery, unlawful possession of methamphetamine, and cruel treatment of animals.
