Where you’ll see heavier traffic, and some closed roads, for weekend events

Several weekend events will bring heavy traffic to some areas and temporarily block some roads as well.

The 15th Annual Quad Cities Triathlon will close roads in the area of West Lake Park in Scott County.  Roads will be closed before, during and after the 600-participant race, which starts at 7 a.m. and ends around 10:30 a.m.   You’re encouraged to avoid the event area, and allow extra time for detours.  Deputies planned to close 110th Avenue between 141st Place and 160th Street, 160th Street between 110th Avenue and 70th Avenue, and 70th Avenue between 145th and 190th streets (from the northern city limit of Blue Grass to the southern city limit of Walcott).  Spectators will take shuttles from the New Life Baptist Church parking lot at 110th and Locust.

The 2014 Komen Race for the Cure will affect traffic in and around downtown Moline and into Rock Island on Saturday, June 14. The course has changed, and will start on River Drive in front of John Deere Commons. The race route will close River Drive between 44th Street in Rock Island (on the west) and 17th Street in Moline (on the east. The route will also close 17th Street between River Drive and 5th Avenue, 5th Avenue between 12th and 17th streets, 12th Street between 4th and 5th avenues and 4th Avenue between 12th Street in Moline and 44th Street in Rock Island. The stretch of 44th Street between 4th Avenue and River Drive will also be closed. Shuttles will run from the designated race parking at the Quad City Botanical Center, 2525 4th Avenue in Rock Island, beginning at 6:30 a.m. The race starts at 8 a.m.

The last day of the 20th Annual Rally on the River QC happens between 10 a.m. and midnight Saturday, June 14. The event is in Centennial Park, and you can expect heavier-than-usual traffic around downtown Davenport and on West River Drive for the event. Saturday events include bike (motorcycle) rides all day as well.

The River Music Experience is celebrating 10 years with a weekend full of indoor and outdoor music and events at their downtown Davenport location at 129 N. Main Street.

If you’re thinking of traveling to Chicago to see any downtown sites, the inbound Kennedy Expressway (I-90/94) will be closed or nearly closed for three weekends, starting Friday, June 13, as crews work to remove the Ontario Street bridge.  This will affect the Kennedy Expressway and alternate routes as well, including I-80 according to the Chicago Tribune.
