Dozens of Bettendorf residents without water, under boil advisory

A broken water main and broken hydrant valve has some Bettendorf residents without water and under a precautionary boil advisory.

A broken water main and broken hydrant valve has some Bettendorf residents without water and under a precautionary boil advisory.

Around 8 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2014 crews from Iowa American Water responded to a water main break, only to find that a nearby hydrant valve was part of the problem. Both were in need of replacement parts.

About 50 customers in the 500 and 600 blocks of 23rd Street and the 2200 block of Mississippi Boulevard were impacted when crews shut-off the water to make repairs.

A precautionary boil advisory was planned for when water service is returned. Iowa American Water expects to have water back around 6 p.m. The advisory was set to end before midnight Friday, June 13.

“The advisory needs to be in effect for at least 24 hours after we turn the water back on so we can get the results of our water quality testing to assure the water meets all state and federal quality standards and is safe for consumption,” said Lisa M. Reisen from American Water.
