Centennial Bridge Lane Closures Start July 7

Quad Cities drivers are getting more information to prepare for the closure of the Centennial Bridge.

Quad Cities drivers are getting more information to prepare for the closure of the Centennial Bridge.

Officials with the Bi-State Regional Commission say that lane closures will begin July 7 on the Centennial Bridge. At that point, drivers will still be able to use it. However, starting July 28, 2014, that won't be the case. On July 28, the bridge will close down for up to 35 days for beam replacement.

"I guess at this point, I'm not going to have a choice in the matter," Rock Island resident Terry Stambaugh said. "I guess I will just have to deal with it as it comes. and just alternate my route or just plan my trips to Davenport at different times."

Drivers will be asked to use I-280, the Arsenal Bridge, or I-74 to get around the closure. The full construction project is supposed to last through October of 2014.

The Illinois Department of Transportation planned to host two meetings to discuss the closure Wednesday, June 11, 2014.  One was set for 3 p.m. at the Rock Island County Office building, and the other meeting was scheduled for 4  p.m. at the Scott County Administration building.
