Tonalist wins 2014 Belmont Stakes, no Triple Crown

Tonalist, ridden by Joel Rosario, won the 146th  Belmont Stakes held in New York, denying California Chrome the Triple Crown on Saturday, June 7, 2014.

California Chrome won the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 3, followed by another win at the Preakness Stakes on Saturday, May 17.

Of the 38 previous horses that took both the Derby and Preakness, only 11 went on to win in the Belmont. California Chrome would have been the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978.
