What started as a 14-year-old joyriding in his grandfather’s car quickly became a high-speed police chase that ended with a head-on crash.
The teen’s grandfather had reported the car stolen according to Syracuse, Utah Police. When someone spotted the car and reported it to police, a chase began around 6 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014.
A bystander captured video as the pursuit traveled through a park where children were playing.
A pickup truck driver said he intentionally used his truck to ram the fleeing car and stop the chase because he was concerned for the safety of his children and others at the park, according to our sister station KSTU. Police said the man pulled his truck into the path of the moving car.
The 14-year-old driver was taken to a juvenile detention center.
