Vandals spray paint cars in Davenport neighborhood

Several residents in Davenport’s McClellan Heights neighborhood woke up to find their cars and trucks sprayed with black paint.

Several residents in Davenport's McClellan Heights neighborhood woke up and found their cars and trucks spray-painted black on Tuesday morning.

"All three of our cars parked by the side of the road got hit," said Lauren Olson. "Some were on the windows, some were on the paint." Olson's white SUV had a big black streak across the side of the vehicle.

The vandal or vandals struck sometime after midnight, the majority of vehicles targeted were parked in front of homes on Forest Road in the leafy historic neighborhood on the city's east side.

"One of my neighbors, he said, 'Your car in front got sprayed,'" said Jerry Smith, who had not one, but two vehicles vandalized.

He used mineral spirits to take the black paint off of both vehicles.

A nearby garage and a small spot on McKinley School were also sprayed. Police were called and were still looking into it.

"It's a very big pain for everybody in the neighborhood. I saw a couple cars down there that got hit worse than I did," Olson said. "I'm not sure how I'm going to get the paint off."
