A Sterling man has been accused of selling drugs near a day care and near a school.

According to Sgt. Steven Hubbard of the Sterling Police Department, 35-year-old Dandre A. James faces charges related to selling 1-15 grams of cocaine within 1000 feet of a child day care and selling less than a gram of cocaine within 1000 feet of a school.

Hubbard said police conducted two controlled drug purchases on Thursday, May 29, 2014. During the first one, $50 was used to buy crack cocaine within 1000 feet of St. Mary’s School in Sterling. During the second drug buy, $200 was used to purchase crack cocaine within 1000 feet of Teri’s Day Care.

Police said James ran away when officers tried to arrest him. He was taken into custody in the parking lot of the Beverage Store in Rock Falls.
