Welcome to the first day of meteorological summer! Meteorological summer includes the months of June, July, and August. “Officially” our astronomical summer doesn’t begin until June 21st.
Many people consider the first day of summer to be the day that area pools open on Memorial Day weekend. For kids, that’s really all that matters. School is out, pools are open, and the weather’s warm enough to spend plenty of time outdoors.
I think most people can appreciate not being stuck indoors anymore. I love summer for many reasons but one of the things I look forward to the most is work. I know. Sounds weird, right? Well let me explain.
My job allows me to have all kinds of fun opportunities. I’ve been asked to show pigs at the Rock Island County Fair again, judge a Geneseo beauty pageant, I get to hang out at the John Deere Classic for free, attend the Mississippi Valley Fair with V.I.P. parking mind you, and occasionally do live shots at other county fairs or outdoor events. I love it.
There’s so much to look forward to this time of year. Let’s just hope it doesn’t go by so quickly.
