Man thrown from motorcycle after hitting construction zone traffic barrel

A Maquoketa man was thrown from his motorcycle when he hit an orange traffic barrel on Highway 61.

A spokesperson from the Scott County Sheriff’s Department said that shortly before 11 p.m., 49-year-old Todd A. Collins, who was southbound on Highway 61, struck a traffic barrel in a construction area Thursday, May 29, 2014 near the Mt. Joy overpass. Collins was thrown from the motorcycle, which continued on and hit a construction trailer.

Police said Collins suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital before being air lifted to another.

Eldridge Police and Fire Departments responded to the crash as well as Scott County Sheriff’s Department.
