Two weeks after an old school in Farmington, Illinois caught fire, remains of a human body were reportedly found inside.
Previous reports indicate that the old Farmington High School in Fulton County caught fire early in the morning Thursday, May 15, 2014. About a dozen fire departments responded to the fire where they said flames were more than 20 feet through the roof.
The three-story building had in recent years been transformed into a business center which held a tanning salon, Laundromat, entertainment center, and other businesses.
The Farmington Police Department said that on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at about 4 p.m. the building’s owner contacted the Farmington Fire Department after smelling a “foul odor” coming from the third floor hallway area.
“While checking the third floor area, debris was removed where the odor was coming from. Personnel discovered what appeared to be the remains of a human body,” said a spokesperson from the Farmington Police Department.
Police said the Fulton County Coroner removed the body from the building. An autopsy was scheduled for some time Friday afternoon.
