Several people took part in the March Against Monsanto demonstration in Davenport.
A worldwide effort was planned for Saturday, May 24, 2014 where millions of activists set out to demonstrate against Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). About 30 people participated in Davenport, where they gathered at the federal building.
The activists say that Monsanto, which has locations in Muscatine and Monmouth, are producing genetically engineered seeds.
“The really bad part is that they are sneaking it into our food without any labeling, and most people don’t even know about it,” said Ralyin Schraceo, who participated in the march. “So that’s why we’re out here for public awareness.”
Monsanto officials told News 8 that there is no evidence that their seeds are harmful to humans or animals.
