After a year of frozen wages followed by a year of limited pay increases, the Moline Board of Education ratified a new contract they say will reinstate salary increases for district employees.

The Moline Board of Education and the Moline Education Association ratified a three-year contract agreement that covers the 2014-2015, 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 school years.

The new agreement calls for employee salaries to increase by two-percent for the first two years, followed by a 1.75% increase for the third school year covered by the agreement.

District officials say a wage freeze in the 2012-2013 school year, followed by a year of only years-of-service increases, combined with health insurance adjustments and savings to save the district about $2 million.  The board credited partnership between the district, employees and their bargaining units for helping the district press through difficult financial times.

“Given the financial situation of the education funding in Illinois, this spirit of cooperation allows the District to be fiscally responsible while maintaining a world-class education system for the Moline and Coal Valley communities,” said a joint statement from the Moline Board of Education and the Moline Education Association.

“This agreement allows the district to continue to focus on student learning while maintaining strong fiscal responsibility,” the statement said.
