The Davenport City Council could approve the re-construction of the Credit Island Lodge at its Committee of the Whole meeting on Wednesday, May 21, 2014.

The city council has made a motion to suspend the rules and pass the item Wednesday night on the COW agenda. The project will cost about $1.5 million. Crews have looked to rebuild the lodge ever since a fire broke out there in May of 2013.

The city received $1.2 million in insurance money. On Wednesday, May 14, 2014, city leaders found out that the project would cost about $300,000 more than the insurance money would cover. The city has asked to receive that extra money, but leaders still do not know whether they'll get it.

Construction could start as early as mid June. Davenport City Engineer Brian Schadt says the lodge could be complete by October of 2014.

Also Wednesday night, city leaders will look at charging residents $5 to park in the Harrison Street parking garage on Friday and Saturday nights between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. City Administrator Craig Malin says the city is looking at paying Per Mar Security to watch over that garage in-between those hours. The agenda item will not be approved Wednesday.
