Annual run raises money for Special Olympics and honors memory of officer

Runners supported the Special Olympics and honored the memory of a Davenport Police officer at the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Runners supported the Special Olympics and honored the memory of a Davenport Police officer at the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run.

The run was held Wednesday morning, May 21, 2014. The route started at the Bettendorf Police Department and took runners across the Centennial Bridge in honor of Sgt. Kevin “Rudy” Marxen.

Marxen passed away in February after suffering an apparent heart attack on the bridge.

Sg.y George Ramos from the Bettendorf Police Department said Marxen had a major impact on many lives and that he liked to help others.

“To pay it forward to Special Olympics… that’s what he was always about, paying it forward and helping their fellow man,” said Ramos.

The Torch Run helped raise about $1,000 for the Special Olympics of Iowa.
