An Illinois man reportedly planned to run away with his stepdaughter so the pair could wait until she was legally old enough to marry.

Jerry Pocklington, 29, of Litchfield, Illinois allegedly began a sexual relationship with the girl in July 2013 according to our sister station KTVI. The pair hitchhiked from Litchfield to St. Louis on Wednesday, May 14, 2014.

They continued to Maryland Heights, Missouri, where they were spotted spending the night in an unlocked van they found behind a business. Concerned employees called police.

Pocklington was arrested, and charged in Missouri with two counts of statutory sodomy and one count of statutory rape. He was jailed in lieu of $150,000 cash-only bond. He could face additional charges in Illinois.

Pocklington reportedly told police he planned to go to New York and keep the girl there for four years until she could legally marry him.

Umm…it does NOT matter. She is fourteen. He is twenty nine. Whether or not she volunteered to go is a moot point. He is old enough to know that running away with and have a sexual relationship with someone of that age is not only inappropriate…it’s ILLEGAL. So yes, he is a nasty psycho.

Exactly!! There are 18 yr olds that can’t even make grown up decisions much less a 14 yr old….just because the 14 yr old agreed to go along with it doesn’t mean 1. It’s legal or 2. That he didn’t know it was wrong to begin with or he wouldn’t be kidnapping and hiding her until she was of “legal” age. Psycho indeed…with a child that needs therapy

Children at that age can be swayed by someone who is supposed to care for them and take care of them. She felt safe with him and felt like he truly loved her. When a child reaches that euphoric state they will be confused about what’s happening and think everyone but that one person is against them. Yes I’m my personal opinion it is wrong and disgusting for him to engage in a sexual relationship with a child let alone his stepchild. I don’t understand when the world deemed it executable to act in such a disturbing manner. Even if she wasn’t forced she probably didn’t see anything wrong with what they were doing.

Lol, I can’t believe someone did defend this psycho. Having a sexual relationship with a minor is illegal and when it’s your step-daughter that’s just morally wrong. How did the stupid guy think he was gonna hide away and marry her when she was legal? He was already married!!!
