Skies look innocent enough this afternoon. Widespread sunshine is taking place, we’ve got a nice breeze out of the south, temperatures are climbing into the 80s, and dewpoints are climbing into the 60s. What could go wrong? A cold front.

Showers and thunderstorms will develop out ahead of a cold front that is currently to our northwest. Fortunately we still have plenty of time to enjoy the gorgeous weather. When the storms to begin to develop they likely will be more along and north of highway 30 near rush hour. This is the area where the greatest threat of large hail and strong wind exists.

The Quad Cities still has a slight risk for these severe storms coming through this evening but whatever does move through will be very hit and miss. The likelihood of the storms being severe locally in the metro is quite low, but cannot be ruled out.
