Police working to address recent gun violence in Rock Island say they arrested two men in connection with that special assignment.

Officers said 27-year-old Powell McGhee tried to run when they stopped a vehicle he was in near 44th Street and 6th Avenue just before 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2014.

Police caught McGhee and arrested him, along with 30-year-old Ronald Hearn, during the traffic stop.  Police said they found two firearms during the traffic stop.

Police said McGhee was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, and with possession of a stolen firearm.  He was held in the Rock Island County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.  Hearn was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.  He was held in the Rock Island County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bond.

The traffic stop and arrests were part of “a special assignment addressing recent incidents of gun violence” according to Rock Island Deputy Police Chief Jason Foy.
