A three-year-old QC boy is in need of a heart transplant and the community came to show their support.

A benefit was held for Will Kohn at the Stern Center in Rock Island on Sunday, May 18, 2014. Will’s parents, Chris Kohn and Meghan Kohn said the turnout was great.

Previous reports indicate that Will was born with a rare heart defect and has undergone many open heart surgeries; the first one was when Will was just six days old.

“It’s nice to have friends, family, and people we don’t even know showing up and just having the support of the community … we’ve got a little guy that needs a surgery and they’re all coming here to back us,” said Chris.

Katy D’Aprile and Jamie D’Aprile, Will’s godparents, helped organize the benefit. Katy said they’ve been planning for it all year. They had activities like a bags tournament, a silent auction, and a bake sale. They also offered music and food.

Katy and Jamie described Will as a fearless and amazing kid who makes everyone smile.

Money raised at the benefit will go to the Kohn family to help pay for Will’s medical expenses.
