On Saturday, May 17, 2014 the America’s Armed Forces Kids Run was held on the Rock Island Arsenal.

Kids ages 3-13 were invited to participate in various races. Kids ages 3 or 4 ran a 100-yard dash, 5 to 6 year olds ran a half-mile,7 and 8 year old kids participated in a one-mile run, and a two-mile run was set up for 9 to 13 year old kids. The races were not timed.

“It’s a good outreach program not only to have the kids be active in the community, but to outreach to the local community and integrate them into what takes place on the Arsenal,” said Jim Coffman, the dad of one of the event’s runners. “You can tell there's a lot of great facilities out here that's open to the public and so it's wonderful for them to be able to use it."

This was the first year for the kids’ run.
