More than a week after a boat and five passengers went through rollers at Lock & Dam 14, the body of the man that went missing during the incident was found.

It was confirmed by the Rock Island County Coroner that the body found near Sunset Marina Friday afternoon, May 16 belonged to Charles Slocum.

Someone had seen the body near Sunset Marina around 4 p.m. Crews from the Arsenal recovered the body near the I-280 Bridge.

Charles Slocum, 42, of Colona, was on a boat with his wife, her son and two friends when their anchor line reportedly broke upstream from Hampton.  When it became apparent the boat was stalled and would not start, his wife says Charles gave her his adult-sized life jacket and took a youth-sized life jacket for himself.

The boat and everyone aboard was sucked through the rollers.  Three people were rescued from the water downstream from Lock & Dam 14.  A fourth person somehow made it to the shore.
