A three-story building caught fire overnight southeast of the Quad Cities and reports indicate that black smoke could be seen for miles.
The Peoria Journal-Star reported that fire was first spotted at the old Farmington High School in Fulton County around 5:30 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2014. About a dozen fire departments responded to the fire where they said flames were more than 20 feet through the roof.
Police forced nearby neighbors to evacuate as firefighters fought the blaze.
According to the report, the nearly 90-year-old school building had in recent years been transformed into a business center which held a tanning salon, Laundromat, entertainment center, and other businesses.
Crews were not immediately sure what caused the fire and no injuries were reported, according to the report.
