Two groups of Black Hawk College students took a walk on stage at their commencement ceremonies at the iWireless Center.

More than 50 students from 13 countries graduated from Black Hawk’s ESL Program Thursday, May 15, 2014.

For some, this is just the beginning of their education.

“English is the first language in this country. You need to communicate,” said Adrien Dusabimana, an ESL graduate. “You need communication for your job, you need to communicate in your community. This is my first step through my education.”

Black Hawk College held its commencement ceremony for associate degree and certificate students later in the evening. More than 380 graduates were expected to walk in the ceremony.
