Police said a Rock Island man was shot in the head and later died from his injuries.

Chief Jeff VenHuizen with the Rock Island Police Department said a 21-year-old man from Moline was shot in the 500 block of 22nd Street before 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2014.  The victim was later identified as Alexander Charles Ford of Rock Island.

VenHuizen said Ford was taken to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Police later said he suffered a single gunshot wound to the head.

Investigators had the intersection of 22nd Street and 6th Avenue blocked off after the shooting.

Witnesses reported shots were fired from someone in a passing vehicle.  Bullet holes were found in a van and in homes in the same area.

Police said they did not have a suspect in custody the night of the shooting.
