Driver hurt when two semis collide on I-280 ramp

One driver was airlifted to a hospital after two tractor-trailers crashed on the exit ramp from westbound Interstate 280 to Rockingham Road.

One driver was airlifted to a hospital after two tractor-trailers crashed on the exit ramp from westbound Interstate 280 to Rockingham Road.

The wreck was reported at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2014.

The crash was at the stop sign where the exit ramp meets Rockingham Road.  Police said one of the rigs had rear-ended the other.

One of the drivers was taken by helicopter ambulance to a hospital in Iowa City.  A spokesman for Davenport Police said that driver suffered a serious but non-life-threatening leg injury.

Police said charges were pending as a result of the crash.

Emergency vehicles blocked the exit from eastbound I-280 to Rockingham Road/Highway 22 for more than an hour.
