St. Ambrose leaders along with health experts across the Quad Cities are holding the Social Justice Center at the Rogalski Center on Thursday, May 8, 2014.

The conference is discussing how the Affordable Care Act is affecting society. Experts talked specifically about how the Affordable Care Act affected women early Thursday morning. Edgerton Women's Health Center CEO Annika O'Mela discussed how people who are uninsured are less likely to get medical help when they need it.

O'Mela says that 20% of women were uninsured in 2012, but she believes that number would drop to 8% if the ACA is fully supported by every state. O'Mela says she's trying to move the conversation forward.

"Not only does the individual who is newly insured benefit, but the Quad Cities benefits, the hospitals benefit, society benefits," O'Melia said Thursday.

Thursday's event goes until 4 p.m. The cost of the event is $35. The last day to sign up for insurance without having to pay a penalty was March 31, 2014. White House officials estimated that seven million Americans had signed up for Obamacare, by April 1, 2014.
