The Illinois Department of Agriculture says bagged mulch from an Ohio company has been found to be under volume at many retailers in Illinois.
Ohio Mulch uses several names on packages of bagged mulch manufactured an their plants in Homerville, Georgia and Columbus, Ohio.
Illinois officials say they’ve discovered certain bags contained less mulch than indicated on the package label.
“A stop sale order initially was placed on all Ohio Mulch products. However, after negotiations with the company, the department has agreed to temporarily rescind the order as long as signage is posted in retail stores carrying the products to warn customers that the bags may be under volume,” said Jeff Squibb, spokesman for the Illinois Department of Agriculture.
Ohio Mulch will offer refunds to customers who purchased mislabeled products. Customers must mail proof of purchase to Ohio Mulch, P.O. Box 650, Blacklick, OH, 43004. Consumers can call the company at (614) 592-2793.
