Police say blood left behind at two Davenport burglary scenes helped them capture a man wanted for those crimes.

Employees at Lake Davenport Sailing Club at 1225 E. River Drive, and Café Express at 1507 E. Locust Street, discovered early July 26, 2013 that someone had broken into the businesses sometime during the night, according to an affidavit from police. In both cases, a window was broken to gain access to the businesses.

A shotgun and other items were reported missing from Lake Davenport Sailing Club. A cash register was taken from Café Express.

Now, 49-year-old Donald Tomsha of Davenport is accused of both burglaries.

Police said Tomsha left his blood behind when he broke the windows at both locations. Crime lab DNA analysis of the blood samples from both crime scenes reportedly linked the two break-ins, and linked both incidents to Tomsha.

Jail records show police charged Tomsha with two counts of burglary, one count of theft and one count of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. He was also charged with driving under suspension, harassment of public officers and possession.

Tomsha, who also goes by “Pee Wee,” was arrested Saturday, May 3, 2014. He was held in the Scott County Jail in lieu of a total $11,000 cash-only bond.
