Some Florida promgoers say they missed the dance because school officials made them take Breathalyzer tests when they arrived on a party bus.

Forty students from Jensen Beach High School said they had to stay outside until their entire group was tested after someone found a champagne bottle on the bus, according to WPTV.

A school district spokeswoman said it was actually the second party bus to arrive at the prom. The first arrived at 8:30 p.m., and those students were also all given Breathalyzer tests before being admitted into prom. The second bus didn’t arrive until 10:30 p.m. and, by the time the Breathalyzer tests were completed, it was too late for the students to go into the prom.

The tests, which were administered by school staff and faculty, all came back negative for alcohol.

Some students from the later bus, and some of their parents, were outraged by the actions of school officials.

The district required everyone planning to attend prom to sign a zero-tolerance policy that said they can be tested.
