Gun, marijuana reportedly thrown out of car during police chase in Davenport

Two arrests were made after a high speed chase in Davenport.

A spokesperson from the Davenport Police Department said that on Friday, May 2, 2014 around 6:15 p.m. police received a report of shots fired around the 1300 block of North Brady. Upon arrival, police began chasing a car traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Ripley Street.

Police said during the chase, a gun and marijuana were thrown from the vehicle. The chase ended at Rockingham Road and River Drive.

Davenport Police said that after a brief foot chase, two people, 26-year-old Whitney Joyner and a 16-year-old, were arrested for charges including felon in possession of a firearm and possession with intent to deliver. Joyner’s charges also included eluding police and reckless driving, according to jail records.

Jail records showed that both were released on bond.

Police said that initial reports claiming shots had been fired were wrong, and no shots were fired.
