Members of the United Steelworkers union rallied as contract talks were underway between steelworkers and Alcoa.

Negotiations began with an opening session April 10, 2014 when the company presented its proposal to the union.  The union presented its proposal when contract negotiations began in earnest on April 28.

About 6,100 workers at ten locations, including the Davenport Works, are covered by the agreement according to Alcoa's website.

Members of United Steelworkers Local 105 held an information picket of solidarity outside the Davenport plant from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, May 1.

Alcoa's contract with the union workers expires May 15, 2014.  Previous contracts traditionally expired May 30, but that date was moved up to help avoid conflicts with Memorial Day.
