A teen father, whose baby died while in his care, was charged with first-degree murder.

Four-month-old Gabriel died Tuesday, April 22, 2014. The baby’s 16-year-old mother, who had recently decided not to go through with giving him up for adoption, had reportedly left Gabriel with 17-year-old Drew Wheeler-Smith.

Gabriel was later found, unresponsive, in a chair. An autopsy showed he died of abusive head trauma.

Wheeler-Smith, the baby’s father, was initially charged in juvenile court with neglect of a dependent person.

Court records show Weehler-Smith was charged with first-degree murder and one count of child endangerment resulting in death Monday, April 28, 2014.

The new charges automatically moved the case from the juvenile system into adult court.

Court records showed Weehler-Smith’s bond was set at $500,000 cash for each case, for a total of $1-million cash bond.  He was appointed a public defender and was next due in court May 9.

I hope both parents rot in hell!!! She should have gave him a chance for a better life. Now thanks to her and him… he doesn’t have a life at all. Smh…

What makes me shake my head is that you are accusing the mother of being a bad mother when she had no part in the death of HER son. Don’t you think that she is going through enough h*** right now that she doesn’t need strangers that clearly don’t know her mothering skills (regardless of her age) to be blatantly judging her on something they know nothing about other than what they have read online??

Did it ever cross your mind that she was trying to give him a chance at a good life by taking the responsibility to raise him instead of doing something stupid like dumping him (like the horror stories we usually read online).

To the mother of Gabe: I am so sorry for your tragic loss and while I know that words can never change what has happened nor will they make the pain you will carry for the rest of your life disappear– I hope you find comfort and solace.

As a matter of fact the mother had given the baby to a loving couple then just before the adoption was finale she took him back. If she had just left him with the adoptive parents the baby wouldnt be dead now

You say blame the mother but she wasn’t even there… if you read the original post she was out doing errands and had left the baby with his father for awhile…so don’t go of taking about something if you don’t have all the facts…
