Davenport leaders planned to host a town hall meeting on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 to promote suicide prevention.

On Friday, April 25,  2014, city leaders held a press conference about the forum. On Friday, April 4, 2014, Davenport West freshman Alice Schmitt committed suicide. Her friends say she was bullied at school. Friends say she had also recently broken up with her boyfriend.

Health experts say that a 12-year-old Pleasant Valley student committed suicide in March of 2014. Experts say four adolescents have committed suicide in Scott County in the last year.

"We need to put the safety net around our children," Superintendent Dr. Art Tate said on April 25. "We need to make sure we're all together and available. That's why I hope we get the community, parents, and grandparents out on the 29th."

Tuesday's meeting starts at 6 p.m. at Davenport North High School.
