Rock Falls Middle School locked down for possible gun threat

When one student reported another student brought a gun to school, officials locked down Rock Falls Middle School as a precaution.

When one student reported another student brought a gun to school, officials locked down Rock Falls Middle School as a precaution.

Police were called to investigate when the school, at 12th Avenue and Roberts Street, was locked down under the district’s Code Red program around 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2014.

“A search of the locker of the possible suspect resulted in the discovery of two pistols in a small backpack,” said a statement from Rock Falls Police Chief Michael Kuelper.

It turned out the guns were Air Soft pistols that resembled two automatic pistols, and the tell-tale orange tip had been removed from the end of the barrel of one of the guns, Kuelper said.

A 13-year-old student was taken into police custody and charged with disorderly conduct.  He was later released to his parents.
