A multi-sport athlete from Rockridge is focusing much of her attention on the track this spring, but as the class valedictorian, she places her efforts on many different things.
In her track career, Devin Hasson has qualified for four events at state all four years at Rockridge. And while she’s the captain of the track & field team, basketball team, and volleyball team, Hasson’s achievements don’t end there. She also is a member of student council, Spanish club, and is on the yearbook staff.
“It definitely gets busy and kind of stressful sometimes,” Hasson said, “but it helps to have a good support group behind me… my friends, and my family, and all my coaches, and even my teachers, they help me out with figuring out how I’m going to get all my homework done and run in a meet or play in a game…”
Hasson said focusing on all these things can get difficult, and sometimes it takes a reminder from someone to help her refocus on something else.
“I’ve been incredibly blessed with all the people I have around me,” she said.
Her mom is the school’s principal and her dad is a football coach. Hasson said knowing that her parents have gone through what she’s experiencing now helps.
Although the responsibility of being a role-model can be “nerve-racking,” Hasson said her best advice is to just be yourself.
